Pellegrini: It's impossible not to be under pressure when replacing Ferguson

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has stoked the fires ahead of this weekend’s crucial Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium, according to talkSPORT.

The Chilean has put pressure on his opposite number David Moyes by pointing out the difficult task he faces as he looks to maintain the success brought to
Manchester United by his predecessor, the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired at the end of last season after winning a 20th league title for the club.

Moyes has made a decent start to life at Old Trafford, and his side won convincingly in midweek against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, with Wayne Rooney looking like approaching his best form again.

City have also had a tricky start under new manager Pellegrini this season, with the former Malaga boss enjoying his first taste of English football in a distinguished career spent mostly in Spain.

With the two managers set to take charge of their first Manchester Derby, Pellegrini has been speaking about the importance of getting an early result over their rivals, as well as the pressure on Moyes to succeed this season.

“It’s a match of six points,” he said. “It’s very important to win it. Playing at home against Manchester United, we must win. It’s more important to win than not to lose.

“It is impossible not to be under pressure when replacing Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Managing Manchester United, or any big team, you are always under pressure but that is a good way to work because you know what you have to do.

“He (Moyes) had good results against Manchester City when he managed Everton, but I had a good record (for Villareal) against Everton when he was manager there.”

Previous City boss Roberto Mancini, whom Pellegrini replaced in the summer, had a good record against United, winning three out of the last four Premier League encounters against the Red Devils.
